The Colts said Wednesday that they knew who they'd take with the No. 1 overall pick, but they weren't telling anyone. We all knew it was Andrew Luck, and apparently, so does Luck, as the Colts have reportedly informed him that he'll be the top choice.

That's according to Adam Schefter of ESPN who reports that Luck may have "known for weeks or days" and the Colts have "made it known" to Luck that he's the top pick.

The news that the Colts want to take Luck with the top pick isn't surprising. The news that the Colts will take Luck with the top pick isn't surprising. What's kind of surprising -- or perhaps simply interesting -- is that the Colts could've given Luck this information a long time ago and he never even really hinted that he thought it was a possibility.

Now we can get down to the real nitty gritty of the 2012 NFL Draft: who will the Vikings take? The Colts and Redskins are locked into their picks -- the only drama remaining for No. 1 and No. 2 is determining who has a better start to their career between Luck and Robert Griffin III, which could be a fun little battle.

And don't be be surprised if we start seeing headlines that involve "Colts have begun negotiations with Luck" here in the next few days. While Ryan Grigson said Wednesday the Colts hadn't really made much progress on such negotiations, it's pretty clear they've been talking with Luck for some time now.
