Report: Cowboys leading contender to face Jaguars in London in 2014
The Jaguars will host the 49ers this Sunday at Wembley Stadium. Jacksonville's opponent in the 2014 NFL International series? It could be the Cowboys.
The Jaguars will "host" the 49ers this Sunday at Wembley Stadium as part of a four-year deal in which Jacksonville plays at least one home game in London. And next year, the Jags could face the Cowboys in the NFL's International Series.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are the "leading contender," and an announcement could come as soon as Thursday.
Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones has said that he'd like to play in London, but with one caveat.
"We would never play a home game in London, at all," he said earlier this month (via the Dallas Morning News), a day after the league announced that there would be three games in England next season. "All of our home games are too important to us. You have to have a situation where somebody's willing to be the home team, which gives up a game at their home. … That's possible."
In addition to the Jaguars, the Falcons and Raiders are the two other teams who will play home games at Wembley Stadium in 2014.
“Our fans in the UK have continued to demonstrate that they love football and want more," commissioner Roger Goodell said on Oct. 8. "Both of this year's games in London sold out quickly. The fan enthusiasm for our sport continues to grow. By playing two games in the UK this year, we are creating more fans. We hope that with three games in London next year we will attract even more people to our game."
