Report: Danny Amendola 'almost certain' to miss Thursday night

Without Danny Amendola playing the role of PPR hero on Sunday, the Patriots probably don't get out of Buffalo with a win. So how will they do without him on Thursday against the Jets? Sounds like we could find out.

Multiple reports make Amendola's chances of playing Thursday look bad. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says Amendola is "almost certain" to miss Thursday. The Boston Herald notes that Amendola wasn't present through the walkthrough on Tuesday. That doesn't guarantee he won't play, but it's certainly not a good sign.

Tom Brady, for his part, wasn't talking about any specific injuries during media appearance on Tuesday.

"We'll see how that all sorts itself out," Brady said. "There's a lot to prepare for in a very short amount of time. We're cramming a lot in but that's what we have to do."

Brady praised the Jets (naturally) and praised the "trust" he had in his depth chart while noting how deep the Patriots are at running back and wideout.

"That's why you have a deep roster," Brady said. "We have a lot of good running backs, a lot of good receivers."

New England will need that depth if Amendola can't go. Shane Vereen is already out thanks to a broken bone in his hand, Rob Gronkowski is unlikely to play and Stevan Ridley is coming off a two-fumble game where he was benched.

Julian Edelman stands to get a ton of targets for the Patriots if Amendola can't go, and it also stands to reason that Kenbrell Thompkins, who struggled in the opener, will be a bigger part of the game plan.

Two things are for certain if the Patriots want to move to 2-0 Thursday though. They'll need to clean up all the mistakes they made in Week 1 at Buffalo and they'll need a lot of impressive contributions from unexpected places on offense.
