Report: DeSean Jackson worried about status with the Eagles
Is receiver DeSean Jackson really in danger of being cut by the Eagles?
Earlier this month, we wrote about how Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson might be in danger of being fired by his team, due to speculation that his personality isn't a fit with coach Chip Kelly, that he's already talking about wanting a new contract and that he hasn't gotten along well with his receivers coach.
Apparently, Jackson is worried enough about his standing with the Eagles that he's reached out to his teammates to express his concerns, reports Phillymag.com.
Reporter Tim McManus also writes that the team has not been in communication with Jackson to clarify the relationship.
This seems a little peculiar, particularly since Chip Kelly has been very careful about making sure his players know where they stand with him. For instance, he spoke with every key veteran on the roster during the draft last April immediately after picking someone at their position.
"I called everybody," said Kelly. "I called Brent Celek when we took a tight end and James Casey. I called Mike [Vick] and we talked to Jason Peters and we talked to Todd Herremans. It’s just kind of the way we’ve done things. When we signed people in free agency I called our guys just to make sure they know where we were. I’m really big on open communication. I don’t want there to be gray areas. I think sometimes there are gray areas because there’s a lack of communication between people."
Kelly was asked about Jackson last week, and he was vague in his answer before changing the subject. Said Kelly: "He's a priority at receiver before [Jeremy] Maclin, behind [Riley] Cooper. Or is it Cooper before Maclin? Or Maclin before Cooper? I’ll check what you write and I'll tell you how we feel about it."
Earlier this month, I wrote that I doubted the Eagles would release Jackson anytime soon, even though they could reportedly make him a post-June 1 designation and only take a $2 million salary-cap hit in 2014 and a $4 million hit in 2015.
But the longer the Eagles go without communicating with their receiver and the more anxious Jackson gets, you have to wonder if Philadelphia really is thinking about parting ways with him.
