Last April, the Dolphins punctuated a busy offseason by trading up to No. 3 in the NFL Draft to select pass rusher Dion Jordan. But two months ago, and following a disappointing rookie season, the Eagles reportedly tried to trade for Jordan, where he would be reunited with his college coach at Oregon, Chip Kelly, who now runs the show in Philly.
This comes from the Delaware County Times' Bob Grotz, who adds that the Eagles are said to have included a second-round pick and linebacker/defensive end Brandon Graham in the deal.
This isn't the first time Jordan's name has come up in trade talks. Back in February, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora wrote that the Dolphins had begun shopping Jordan around to gauge his trade value.
Grotz suggests that "Jordan’s contract wouldn’t be a huge obstacle to a trade," adding:
The Eagles would be picking up the remainder of his four-year, $20.572 million fully guaranteed pact according to Overthecap.com. The Dolphins would take a $10 million salary cap hit this year if they traded Jordan before the draft. After June 1, the Dolphins would be able to spread the cap charge over two years. If the Eagles included their first-round pick in a deal, Overthecap.com calculated they would be paying slightly more than what the 22nd overall pick would earn in the 2014 draft and saving bonus money. All of that for a guy Kelly considered an elite talent.
Who knows if Kelly thinks Jordan is worth that but part of the reason the Dolphins moved up in last year's draft was because they were convinced that Kelly and the Eagles, who had the No. 4 pick, would have jumped at the chance to land Jordan.
