Report: George Edwards to be Vikings defensive coordinator
Dolphins linebackers coach George Edwards will be the Vikings' defensive coordinator, according to a report.
A day after the Vikings hired Mike Zimmer as their head coach, the former Bengals defensive coordinator is moving quickly to assemble his staff. Dolphins linebackers coach George Edwards will be the Vikings' defensive coordinator, according to FOXSports.com's Alex Marvez.
Meanwhile, former Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner, is close to a deal with the Vikings to serve in that same capacity, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Minnesota won just five games during the 2013 season and they struggled on both sides of the ball. The defense ranked 26th, according to Football Outsiders, while the offense was 17th, thanks largely to Adrian Peterson and the running game.
Edwards will be charged with shoring up a unit that was 29th against the pass, a task that won't be easy given that the Vikings face Aaron Rodgers, Jay Cutler and Matthew Stafford six times each season.
Turner is known for getting the most out of young quarterbacks, though that didn't happen in his one season with the Browns. And it's unclear if Turner will get that chance with Christian Ponder, the Vikings' former first-round pick who has been a disappointment during his three-year career.
