Report: John Harbaugh gives Ravens staff Lombardi Trophy replicas
Ravens coach John Harbaugh has reportedly given his staff replicas of the Lombardi Trophy, believed to be worth between $10,000 and $20,000.
There is one singular focus for every team in the NFL: the Lombardi Trophy. In a presumed attempt to remind folks of that importance, Ravens coach John Harbaugh has reportedly given his staff replicas of the trophy.
Joe Fortenbaugh of the National Football Post reports that Harbaugh handed out knockoffs of the world famous trophy, still managing to make sure that the importance is represented financially. According to Fortenbaugh, the trophies are worth between $10,000 and $20,000 apiece. That's not the price of the actual trophy -- that's the cost of the replicas.
The actual Lombardi is worth upward of a reported $50,000.
But that's still a pretty strong move from the Ravens coach. The $20 grrr doesn't come cheap, obviously. And, frankly, in relation to what goes into winning a Super Bowl, $50K isn't all that much.
Tossing that much more into the kitty to let the members of the staff remember an unbelievable season should only go further toward motivating them in 2013.
As I've noted many times here, there's a good chance the Ravens could be better in 2013. They were lucky to make the playoffs last year and then rode hot streaks from Joe Flacco and any number of defensive players to a title (not that there's anything wrong with that).
If Flacco rolls his 2012 playoff performance into the 2013 regular season, the latest replicas from Harbaugh might not be the last vision of the Lombardi the Ravens staff gets to see.
