Rams coach Jeff Fisher admitted Monday that he had some interest in just-released Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. Apparently, the team has more interest in former Lions backup Shaun Hill, because they have signed him to a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan.
Hill visited the Rams last week and now he'll serve as the No. 2 behind Sam Bradford, who is coming off ACL surgery. Hill, who spent the previous four seasons in Detroit, is considered one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league. In 2010, Hill started 10 games, completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 2,686 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, and ranked 16th in Football Outsiders' QB efficiency metric.
With the Rams, Hill will replace Kellen Clemens, who signed with the Chargers earlier this month.
As for Sanchez, who also had ties to Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, he'll likely end up somewhere other than St. Louis. The latest scuttlebutt had the Eagles in the running for his services, because, really, nothing screams Chip Kelly's high-powered offense like a QB triumvirate of Nick Foles, Matt Barkley and Mark Sanchez.
