Revis on joining the Patriots: 'Basically, it's about just winning'
CB Darrelle Revis and the Patriots have let bygones be bygones and are now focusing their energy on a singular goal: Winning.
The one-time rivals -- Revis came into the league with the Jets -- have let bygones be bygones and are now focusing their energy on a singular goal: Winning.
Two years ago, Revis called Patriots coach Bill Belichick "a jerk" dating back to comments Belichick made after the Pats beat the Jets in 2011. On Monday, it was a non-issue.
"We had a conversation about it," the cornerback said. "We're moving forward and we're excited about working together and trying to win games."
Revis, who left New York on somewhat acrimonious terms, added that joining New England had nothing to do with giving the Jets the business twice a season.
"That was never a factor," he said, before pointing out the obvious reasons for coming to Foxborough. "My thing is all about winning. I want to win. What better organization than the New England Patriots to be a part of? If you look at their track record, New England has won, year in and year out, and has had playoff berths. Right now, in my career, it's great to be with Tom Brady and Coach Belihick and the Patriots, and help them win games ...
"Basically, it's about just winning," Revis continued. "I weighed my options and I just wanted to win. I felt like this was the right place, to be part of the Patriots’ organization."
Some 1,800 miles away, the Broncos are busily doing their part to maintain their status as the AFC's team to beat. General manager John Elway has signed DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib (formerly of the Pats), T.J. Ward and Emmanuel Sanders in part to add "energy and toughness" to a group that was thoroughly embarrassed (and maybe even lackadaisical) in the Super Bowl.
And while getting back to the championship game is the goal, Elway knows that Denver will probably have to battle New England for that right.
"You always know you have to go through New England," he told USAToday.com over the weekend. "With their track record over the last 10 years, they're a team you're going to have to be able to deal with. For us to get done what we want to get done, you have to be able to beat them. It's a fun arms race, and we'll see what happens next year."
Meanwhile, it's been a tough few days for Rex Ryan and John Idzik. The Jets reportedly never were interested in a Revis reunion but they're in desperate need of a big-play corner. Which is why they wanted Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, now the newest member of the Giants.
DRC going to the Giants, as @AdamSchefter first reported, bad news for the Jets. Rex and his boys badly wanted the best CB still on market— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) March 17, 2014
