Robert Griffin III absent from Redskins rookie training camp

Griffin wasn't at rookie training camp, but Skins fans shouldn't worry. (US Presswire)

Washington Redskins rookie training camp began on Monday. There was one rookie noticeably absent, however, as quarterback Robert Griffin III was not there.

However, as Brian McIntyre points out at, this doesn't make Griffin a "no show" or "holdout" -- he doesn't have a contract yet.

The Redskins first-round pick said recently that he hoped to get a contract signed in time to make it to D.C. for the rookie reporting date of July 16.

But as we noted at the time, it's one thing to want a contract and a totally different thing to actually get one, especially when none of the top-eight picks from 2012's NFL Draft have signed yet.

RG3 would probably love nothing more than to be at the Redskins complex, working out and getting ready for the season. But the people with his financial interests in mind aren't going to let him do that until some of the other top picks have signed their contract.

That's not a reflection on RG3; he'll get into camp on time (veterans don't report for another week). It's more a warning to fans not to worry about whether or not Griffin is in camp just yet.

He's not holding out in a disruptive fashion, he's simply allowing the dominoes to fall before signing on the dotted line. The only reason for fans to worry is if Andrew Luck and Trent Richardson have signed contracts and started praticing for a while before Griffin arrives in camp. That won't happen.
