Saints re-sign WR Robert Meachem to one-year deal
Robert Meachem is staying in New Orleans. The free agent wide receiver re-signed with the team on Friday.
The Saints offense won't have Darren Sproles and Lance Moore in 2014, but it will have Robert Meachem. The free agent wide receiver re-signed with the team on Friday, the Saints announced. Meachem's new deal with New Orleans is for one year.
Meachem didn't catch a lot of passes last season, but he did turn out to be the Saints primary deep threat, averaging a team-high 20.3 yards per catch. Meachem caught a total of 16 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns in 2013.
One of Meachem's biggest games came in the divisional round of the playoffs when he finished second on the team with 69 receiving yards in a 23-15 loss to the Seahawks.
Next year will mark Meachem's seventh year in New Orleans. After the Saints made Meachem the 27th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, the 29-year-old receiver spent his first five seasons in New Orleans before leaving the team in 2012 to sign with the Chargers. Meachem spent one season in San Diego before returning to New Orleans in 2013.
Meachem's biggest year came in 2009 when he caught 45 passes for 722 yards and nine touchdowns in a year where the Saints won the Super Bowl.
