'We're going to be good,' Greg Schiano noted, although he wouldn't say when. (USATSI)
Fantastic news for Buccaneers supporters: Coach Greg Schiano, the man responsible for the team's 0-5 start, has some words of encouragement for its beleaguered fan base.

“If they can hang in there, we’re going to be good,” Schiano said, via the Tampa Bay Times's Rick Stroud. “If they can’t, we’re still going to be good, and they’re welcome back. I’m not being smart. I mean that. I think our fans are great. When I came out to start the game, warmups, our fans were awesome. The end of the game, I’m disappointed just like they are.”

Worth nothing: The Bucs ended last season, Schiano's first with the team, by losing five of their final six games. That makes them 1-10 dating back Nov. 25, 2012. Also not helping: Three players have been diagnosed with MRSA, former first-round pick Josh Freeman has been run out of town, and the NFLPA thinks that Schiano leaked confidential personal information about Freeman before the two parted ways.

Other than all that, sure, the arrow's pointing up for arguably the league's worst franchise. (Seriously, are they better than the Jags?)

But at least one player thinks Schiano can turn things round. Tight end Tim Wright, who played for Schiano at Rutgers, has faith in the coach.

"I think he can get it done and get everybody to rally around what he's preaching and I think he'll be all right," Wright said. "We're one play, two plays, three plays away from getting things turned around."

And sometimes 10, 15, 30 plays away. But we take your point, Tim.

As for when the pirate ship will magically right itself, Schiano didn't have a timeframe.

"Certainly, we've got to win,'' the coach said. "But I don't sit there and say by this date, this should take hold and then this date this should take hold, because there are too many variables to predict."

Like whether Schiano will still be employed by the team when they actually in their first game.
