Seahawks coach Pete Carroll: Jim Harbaugh has done marvelous job
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says that Jim Harbaugh has done a 'marvelous job' since taking over as 49ers coach in 2011.
The Seahawks and 49ers rivalry seems to get more interesting by the day.
Earlier this week, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh weighed in on the recent rash of performance-enhancing drug suspensions in Seattle, "If you cheat to win, then you've already lost," Harbaugh said on Tuesday, quoting Bo Schembechler.
Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner -- who served a four-game PED suspension last season -- didn't take kindly to Harbaugh's comments. On Thursday, Browner said that he would put his "hands around [Harbaugh's] neck" if Harbaugh ever lined up against him on the field.
On Friday, it was Seattle coach Pete Carroll's turn to respond to Harbaugh. Only Carroll didn't take a shot. Instead, he utilized one of the oldest tactics in the book: kill 'em with kindness.
In an interview with the NFL Network, Carroll only had good things to say about the 49ers third-year coach.
"They're a great program," Carroll said, via the Sporting News. "They've done a marvelous job since Jim took over and they've done it all on the field. We respect that our division has really changed, we've changed along with it, and every single game we play is the biggest rival that we would ever know ... They've done some really cool things and play exciting football, and we love matching up with the division."
Harbaugh and Carroll have had a tenuous relationship that dates back to when both men coached in the Pac-12. Carroll didn't throw any fuel on the fire here, but with the way the Seahawks-49ers rivalry is going, you can probably bet someone will throw a bucket of fuel on the fire before the two teams kick off on Sunday Night Football in Week 2.
