Seattle-area dealership out $420K after Seahawks shut out Giants

A car dealership in suburban Seattle will have to pay 12 people $35,000 after a promotion promised $420,000 in a giveaways should the Seahawks shut out the Giants.

Well, Seattle went to MetLife Stadium and blanked New York 23-0 on Sunday, and now Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way, Wash., has to pay up.

"This is crazy," Jim Johnson, one of the owners of the dealership, told ESPN. "We never expected that we'd actually be giving away the money."

Luckily, the dealership took out a $7,000 insurance policy, which softens the blow. And before you ask, "Why in god's name would you run a shutout promotion against the Giants?!," Johnson was hoping to do it last week ahead of the 49ers game. Logistics intervened, it was pushed back a week, and Eli Manning and his five interceptions happily obliged.

The 12 winners -- who range from car buyers to those just interested in free money -- will be determined Monday in a drawing.
