Sometimes onside kicks come as a surprise to the receiving team. That's not the case late in games, so you need to invent a little trickery to throw the opponent off.

The Steelers tried to do that against the Ravens, as kicker Chris Boswell attempted to pull off a Rabona with the late kick (essentially striking it in a different direction using his other foot).

It did not go well!

As Ian Eagle and Rich Gannon noted, "That was a swing and a miss."

"That was ... a whiff."

Watching the replay from another angle is even more amusing.

Of course, the difference here is Rabona is just being excessively flashy most of the time when he scores goals like that. Boswell, despite pulling off what might very well be the worst onside kick in NFL history, had some usage in his attempted deception.

And, actually, Boswell's done this before as well. While in college with the Rice Owls, Boswell busted out the Rabona and helped the Owls get the ball back.

So while the execution was terrible, and the Steelers lost 21-14, the idea was pretty awesome.
