Texans DB Joseph blasts fans for cheering Schaub injury
Jonathan Joseph told fans cheering Matt Schaub's injury not to 'show the f--- up' to games, while every other Texans player agreed it was disgusting to hear their fans.
Matt Schaub suffered an injury for the Texans on Sunday and fans did the worst thing possible. They cheered. It was embarrassing and disgusting. Also a lot of other things that Texans players didn't appreciate.
For starters, there was Arian Foster -- who is always quite outspoken -- calling the cheers "tactless and tasteless."
“That is just tactless and tasteless. I was extremely heated at that," Foster said. They have to go home and look at themselves in the mirror and if they were born to hurt a man, that’s fine. They can do what they do. The fans can get emotional. That is just not how I was brought up. That is not the kind of man I am. I’ve got to go home and raise a daughter, and teach her right from wrong.
"That is just not something you do. I don’t care how you feel about a man. You don’t kick him when he is down."
Then there was Andre Johnson, who pointed out that there was "no class" involved and how far off the rails things have gone when your opponent is lamenting the fans' behavior.
“No class. It’s bad when members of the other team are saying that’s messed up that they would do something like that," Johnson said. "It just shows no class. It wasn’t all of the fans, but those are the same people when you’re out somewhere with your family and you tell them they can’t have an autograph right now, they are the same people that tell you you’re rude. It’s no class. It just shows what they’re all about. You don’t cheer about anybody being injured. I don’t care who it is. Guys lay their bodies on the line out there on that field. Some guys get injuries and it affects them their whole lives. For them to cheer about something like that, it just shows they have no class."
If you were at Reliant stadium and cheered Matt's injury, you are a poor representation of your fan base and a bad example to young fans.— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) October 13, 2013
Long also said he wouldn't have celebrated the play if he'd known Schaub was hurt. And they guy who stepped in Schaub certainly wasn't on board with the fans cheering the injury either.
"Yeah, that is disrespectful," Yates said. "The guy is laying there on the ground holding his ankle, and the fans are cheering. For all that guy has done for this city and this team, for the fans to be booing him when he is hurt on the ground, straight up disrespectful."
But the boldest statement might've come from cornerback Johnathan Joseph, who not-so-subtlely told fans if they were planning to continue and cheer injuries they could not come to the games.
"They gonna do that, don’t show the f*** up."
It should be a fun week in Houston.
