Tim Tebow plays zero plays in Patriots loss to Lions
Tim Tebow spent the entire game on the bench on Thursday as the Patriots lost to the Lions 40-9 in preseason play.
The good news: Tebow threw for more yards against the Lions than he did last week against the Buccaneers. Tebow threw for zero yards against Detroit, which is technically more than the minus-1 yard he threw for against Tampa.
The bad news: Tebow threw for zero yards against the Lions because he didn't play. At all. Tebow was on the field for warmups, halftime warmups and the postgame handshake. Other than that, he was on the sideline.
The really bad news for Tebow is that his lack of playing time could mean his days in New England are numbered. The third game is generally the most important one of the NFL preseason and Tebow playing in zero plays could mean Bill Belichick has zero plans for him.
Obviously, after the game, Belichick was asked why Tebow didn't play and he gave reporters a five-word answer, "Because we played two quarterbacks," Belichick said, via WEEI.
It's probably a good thing no one asked Belichick if he thought the Patriots lost because Tebow didn't play. "Coach, Tebow's good luck -- don't you think you guys would have won if you had played him?" That question didn't happen.
Belichick didn't make any friends in Detroit by not playing Tebow. The Lions crowd chanted for Tebow throughout the fourth quarter and booed the Patriots when Ryan Mallet came out for New England's final offensive drive of the game.
If your one goal for 2013 was to see Tim Tebow play football, then you may want to buy tickets for the Patriots preseason finale against the Giants. That could be the last time in 2013 that we see Tebow in an NFL uniform.
