Tom Brady didn't send Terrell Suggs a Christmas card this year
The Patriots and Ravens renew an old rivalry Sunday and there are playoff implications on the line.
The Patriots and Ravens renew an old rivalry Sunday and there are playoff implications on the line. New England, beset by injuries, is desperately trying to hold onto the No. 2 spot in the AFC. Baltimore, meanwhile, can take their division by winning out.
On Wednesday, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who has something of a history with Ravens' linebacker Terrell Suggs, was asked if Suggs should expect a Christmas card from the Brady family any time soon.
Tom Brady was asked if he sent Suggs an Xmas card. "Probably not this year. Maybe one of these years we’ll get together for dinner”— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) December 18, 2013
Brady went on to praise Suggs, the 2011 Defensive Player of the Year.
"He's a great player, he's always been a great player," the quarterback said. "He presents a lot of problems for an offensive line, an offense. He's big, he's rangy, he's powerful, he plays the runs and pass. It's really -- for a guy that size and how athletic he is, to play the way he does is amazing."
So that's nice, and in the spirit of the season and all that, but during a 2010 game, Brady and Suggs weren't quite so friendly. It all started after Brady was hit following a completed pass, and he complained to the officials that a flag should have been thrown. Suggs, obviously, felt otherwise.
Afterwards, the Ravens linebacker explained what they were talking about.
"He was trying to tell me how to bag a Hollywood actress," Suggs said at the time. "He said, 'If you want to get a Hollywood actress, take my seminar on Saturday.' ...He was going over the Dow and the economy and politics. He doesn't really talk football that much."
Brady's response: "We play those guys a lot and they've only beat us one time in all the times that I've played them. So they talk a lot for beating us once in nine years."
(The Ravens would lose to the Patriots again in the 2011 conference championship game, but returned the favor last January to get to the Super Bowl.)
Last October, Suggs had more thoughts on Brady: "I don’t think it’s appropriate for camera,” Suggs said when asked what he thought about Brady, according to NESN.com. “I don’t like him. He don’t like me. I don’t like his hair. I don’t know. I don’t like his smug attitude. But then again he probably doesn’t like my a------ attitude. ... Everybody just seems to worship the guy -- not me, though."
In case you're wondering, Baltimore is a slight home favorite (-1.5) Sunday, and four of eight CBSSports.com experts have them beating New England.
