Top 10 prop bet options for 2014 Super Bowl
Here's a list of 10 extremely strong prop bets for the 2014 Super Bowl.
NEW YORK -- The Super Bowl is nearly upon us. That means it's getting close to the time when you've got to make your choices for what props to put, ahem, frienly wagers on for the 2014 Super Bowl. Because we love you we'll walk through our top 10 choices to bet on in the upcoming game.
I highly recommend checking out the above video with Paul Bessire of PredictionMachine.com, where we break down some of the options as well. Many thanks to the folks at Bovada.lv for the full list of props, which you can find here.
1. How many times will Peyton Manning say "Omaha" during the game?
Odds: Over/under 27.5
Pick: Over. He ripped off 31 "Omahas" against the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. I think you see him get a few less plays to run in the Super Bowl, but I think Manning will make sure to include a few extra Omaha calls designed to bring the aggressive Seahawks defense offsides.
2. How many times will "Beast Mode" be said during the game?
Odds: Over/under 2
Pick: Over. Marshawn Lynch is the best player on the Seahawks offense and he's been all over the news this week. Surely they've got some graphic planned around his earth-shaking rushing ability that involves his nickname.
3. Who will be seen first on TV after kickoff?
Odds: Erin Andrews (-140), Pam Oliver (EVEN)
Pick: Andrews. 90 percent sure that in the NFC Championship Game FOX threw it to Andrews first for a take from the Seahawks and then hit up Oliver. She'll be with the Broncos and Oliver with the Seahawks. If they go with the home team first, they'll go AFC and Andrews.
4. How many times will Archie Manning be shown on TV during the game?
Odds: Over/under 2.5
Pick: Under. The over seems obvious because three isn't many shots of Archie, but he usually does a good job of hiding. Archie understands it's Peyton's time to shine. And the key is during the game -- I'd guess you get a couple Manning family shots during the action and perhaps after. Don't sleep on Peyton's no-huddle offense keeping the action planted on the field. A blowout could push this over if Fox is desperate though.
5. Will Knowshon Moreno cry during the singing of the National Anthem?
Odds: Yes (+400), No (-700)
Pick: Yes. Except this is a trick question. Moreno doesn't actually cry. He leaks.
6. Will Renee Fleming wear gloves when she starts singing the US National Anthem?
Odds: Yes (-200), No (+150)
Pick: No. Do a Google Image search of Renee Fleming. Good luck finding a picture of her with gloves on.
7. Will Michael Crabtree mention Richard Sherman in a tweet during the Super Bowl from kickoff until final whistle?
Odds: Yes (+150), No (-200)
Pick: No. Absolutely awesome prop, Bovada. But not if Crabtree knows what's good for him. #Scoreboard
8. What will the TV Rating be for the Super Bowl?
Odds: Over/under 47.5 Nielson Rating
Pick: Over. Never bet the under on Super Bowl ratings.
9. Total Number of Penalties Made by Both Teams
Odds: Over/under 12.5
Pick: Over. Two aggressive teams here on both sides of the ball, the potential for 2-3 offsides penalties from the Seahawks, some pass interference calls down the field and a roughing penalty on both teams with a QB the league loves to protect and a scrambling QB.
10. Total Team Points - Denver Broncos
Odds: Over/under 25
Pick: Over. If Denver goes under 25 they're not winning this game. If there's a massive snowstorm when the game is starting or the winds whipping at 25+ MPH everything changes though.
