Vince Young: 'I don't have the slightest idea' why I'm not in the NFL

Despite a rash of injuries to several starting quarterbacks around the NFL on Sunday, Vince Young remains out of work. This development puzzles the third-overall pick in the 2006 draft.

"Me and my wife and all my peers and fans, we're all trying to figure this stuff out," Young said during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio Wednesday. I don't have the slightest idea. It's like a huge question mark over my head every day I wake up in the morning to take care of my responsibilities and know I should be playing. To not have one of those calls, it's tough."

Young was originally drafted by a Titans team coached by Jeff Fisher. Fisher now coaches the Rams, who last Sunday lost Sam Bradford for the year to an ACL injury. Bradford has been replaced in the lineup by Kellen Clemens and the Rams chose to sign Brady Quinn and Austin Davis (and may or may not have inquired about Brett Favre).

Back in March, former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb said Young deserved a second chance.

"Give him an opportunity to get back on his feet and also get himself established in this league," McNabb said at the time. "He was able to apologize to Fisher and move on with his life. Give him an opportunity, bring him into camp and show his talents once again. He did it at the Texas Pro Day. Obviously, a lot of eyes were focused on him. He was able to elevate and show he is still working hard to get back to be an elite quarterback."

Young was impressive at his pro day this spring, and the workout apparently sparked some NFL interest.

In August, Young signed a one-year deal with the Packers but was released prior to the season.

Young's latest comeback attempt faces long odds. If that wasn't clear before this week, the point was hammered home when the Rams reportedly inquired about a 44-year-old Brett Favre and eventually signed Brady Quinn.
