With Terrelle Pryor out, rookie Matt McGloin to make first start
With Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor sidelined with a knee injury, undrafted rookie Matt McGloin will make his first NFL start Sunday vs. the Texans.
Terrelle Pryor, who has quickly become one of the league's most dynamic players, will be sidelined Sunday when the Raiders face the Texans. The team has announced that the third-year quarterback will not play because of a knee injury he suffered in last week's loss to the Giants.
Matt McGloin went from "camp arm" in late April to Raiders starting QB on Sunday. No way anyone saw that happening.— Steve Corkran (@CorkOnTheNFL) November 16, 2013
Two weeks ago, McGloin got on the field late in the Raiders' lopsided loss to the Eagles. He completed 7-of-15 passes for 87 yards, and didn't through a touchdown or an interception. That's the extent of his NFL experience.
But hey, if McGloin needs inspiration, he can look across the field at the Texans' starting quarterback. Case Keenum was undrafted in 2012, and he's been impressive in three starts this season, throwing seven touchdowns versus no interceptions with a 105.2 passer rating.
Unfortunately, McGloin won't have the benefit of facing the Raiders' defense, which ranks 26th, according to Football Outsiders.
