Would the Seahawks turn Terrelle Pryor into a tight end?
Seahawks general manager John Schneider certainly likes the athleticism of new acquisition Terrelle Pryor.
After weeks of hand-wringing about the possibility of either trading or cutting Terrelle Pryor, the Raiders finally got around to sending him to the Seahawks for a seventh-round pick earlier this week.
Here's the funny thing, though. Seattle already has a Super Bowl-winning quarterback at starter. His name is Russell Wilson. The Seahawks also have a competent backup in Tarvaris Jackson (who's actually making more money than Wilson this year, as will Pryor for that matter).
So, where does Pryor fit into the roster? Some speculated after the deal was done that perhaps Seattle could convert Pryor into something else. A tight end perhaps.
And while Seattle general manager John Schneider said the organization hasn't thought that far in advance, he did compliment Pryor on being such a good athlete.
“We haven’t had those conversations,” Schneider told SiriusXM NFL Radio, via Vic Tafur. “But if there was ever an athlete that would be able to play a slash role, if you will, it would be this kind of player. That may a little bit fantasy football at this time of the year. He’s a quarterback. He’s been a quarterback, but no we haven’t gotten into that. This guy is a very talented athlete and we can’t wait to put our hands on him and have our staff spend some time with him.”
So, what about tight end?
Well, Matt Bowen, then writing for the National Football Post, dissected the idea and wrote about how there would be major questions about whether Pryor could block a defensive end or defensive tackle and whether he could win against a linebacker or safety in the passing game.
Wrote Bowen: "Can it be done? Anything is possible with good NFL coaching. But remember, we are trying to project a QB into a much more physical role that he has never played vs. real competition."
