Dallas Cowboys nose tackle, Josh Brent, was arrested early Saturday morning after a crash that killed his practice squad teammate, Jerry Brown Jr. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter and later released on a $500,000 bond on Sunday.

Brent and Brown were former teammates at the University of Illinois where in 2009 Brent was convicted of DUI and ordered to serve jail time.

CBS college football analyst Ron Zook, who coached both of the young men at Illinois, was devastated by the news.

“Josh took the discipline and it was something he needed to do.” Zook said. “I actually checked on him a few weeks ago actually with his agent and how he was doing. Josh was a young man that you really felt like he turned a corner and was doing exactly what he was supposed to do to live a productive life.”

Brent attended the funeral service of his teammate and friend after Brown's mother insisted he be present. Also, coach Jason Garrett made sure to let Brent know he had the support of the team. “We all love him and we're going to be here for him.”
