Playing on a team that has featured playmakers like O.J. Small, Chad Jackson and Andre Caldwell in recent years, Baker is the steady influence in the Gators' receiving unit. The nephew of Former New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers All-Pro receiver, Wes Chandler, Baker has been a model of consistency, improving his pass catching skills and production in each of his last four seasons.
Baker was a Super Prep All-American selection at New Smyrna Beach High School in 2000 and ranked among the nation's top 30 receivers, according to that recruiting service. He added Prep Football Report All-American honors and was named Central Florida's Player of the Year in 2000 after catching 68 passes for 1,140 yards (16.8 avg) and 16 touchdowns. He was also chosen first-team Class All-State.
Dallas originally signed with Florida in February 2001, but did not enroll and attended Northfield Mt. Hermon School in Massachusetts in 2001 to improve his academics. He came up with 32 catches for 916 yards (28.6 avg) and 13 touchdowns that year.
Baker enrolled at Florida in 2002, spending the season on the scout team. The redshirt freshman appeared in 13 games for the Gators in 2003, catching 13 passes for 209 yards (16.1 avg), including a touchdown. He also excelled on the kickoff coverage unit, recording seven solo tackles.
Baker became part of the Gators' receiving rotation in 2004, finishing fifth on the team with 26 catches for 410 yards (15.8 avg) and five touchdowns while starting three of 12 games. He again performed well on the kickoff coverage team, registering six tackles (five solos).
Baker started 11 of 12 games as a junior, ranking second on the team with 52 catches for 697 yards (13.4 avg) and five touchdowns. In 2006, he led the team with an average of 65.7 receiving yards and 4.3 receptions per game.
In 59 games for Florida, Baker caught 151 passes for 2,236 yards and 21 touchdowns.
