Overview

Only a handful of kickers in recent memory entered their senior season with more national acclaim than Crosby did in 2006. A First Team Big 12 performer as both a sophomore and junior, Crosby amazed not only because of his career accuracy (77 percent), but also because of his amazing leg strength (career long of 60 yards). Don't let the thin mountain air fool you. The altitude of Boulder, Colorado had nothing to do with Crosby's 58-yarder at Miami, Fla. -- the longest without a kicking tee at sea level (seven feet) in D-IA history.

At first glance, Crosby's numbers as a senior appear erratic. He finished 2006 making 19 of 28, but this season's 69 accuracy percentage is the worst of his career. A closer look, however, reveals that Crosby successfully converted 17 of the 19 kicks he attempted within 49 yards; his big leg allowing for circus-like attempts of 56, 57, 63 and 65 yards. Though the statistically worst season of his collegiate career is a definite red flag for scouts, Crosby is still clearly the nation's top kicking prospect of this year. His leg strength translates onto kickoffs, as well, as Crosby has kicked off 203 times over his career with 138 going as touchbacks.

Analysis

Positives: Good size and overall athletic ability for the position. Greatest asset is his overall leg strength. Nearly 70 percent of kickoffs over his career went for touchbacks and career long field goal is 60 yards, with a 58-yarder coming at Miami (Fla.) the longest kick in D-IA history made at sea level without a kicking tee. Good overall height on kickoffs, allowing coverage unit time to get into position. Good height on kicks. Ball generally gets up quickly, but had two blocked. Career 75 percent kicker with percentage considerably higher if not for coaches' willingness to let Crosby swing away from 55 yards and beyond. Poised under pressure. Crosby has made 11 of 13 field-goal attempts with 8:30 or less left in game -- with two misses being from 63 and 65 yards.

Negatives: Adequate quickness from snap to kick. Has had one field-goal attempt blocked each of the past two seasons. Potential red flag with career low success rate during senior season, though majority of misses were from 55-plus.
