One of the vocal and emotional leaders of the 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference Champion Demon Deacons, Vallos has been a mainstay on the offensive line, starting at every position except center. He went on to set a school record with 48 consecutive starts.
Vallos earned letters in football, wrestling and track and field (discus and shot-put events) at Boardman High School. He was named to The Vindicator's all-star team in all three sports and was a first-team All-Steel Valley Conference pick in football and track. He added All-Northeast Ohio football first-team honors and received honorable mention on the Associated Press All-Ohio team.
Vallos was selected to participate in the North-South and "Big 33" all-star games. He helped lead Boardman to an 8-3 record in Ohio's Division I and a spot in the state playoffs as a senior. He was named The Vindicator's Wrestler of the Year and was a first-team All-Eastern Ohio wrestling selection.
He holds the school's season (24) and career (58) pin records. He was a two-time qualifier for the state wrestling tournament, finishing second in Ohio as a senior. Vallos finished third in the state in discus as a junior and senior. He was also an Honor Roll and National Honor Society student.
Vallos redshirted at Wake Forest in 2002. He earned Freshman All-America third-team honors from The Sporting News. He graded 86.3 percent for blocking consistency and averaged 8.3 knockdowns per game as one of only two offensive linemen to start every game.
As a sophomore, Vallos was selected All-Atlantic Coast Conference second-team. He started all 11 games, seeing action at both tackle and guard positions, finishing the year with an 87 percent grade for blocking consistency.
The All-ACC honorable mention and Lombardi Award Watch List member, Vallos posted 146 knockdowns and again graded 87 percent for blocking consistency in 2005. He helped the team lead the conference in rushing with an average of 197.1 yards per game.
Vallos earned All-America and All-ACC first-team honors in 2006. He played in all but four of the team's 847 snaps and graded 90 percent for blocking consistency. He also registered 92.5 knockdowns, 23 more than any other teammate.
