It was a little surprising he was tendered as some of his shortcomings were exposed when playing extended stretches last year. April 16, 2009: Chargers needs: Fixing the defense a must

Offense isn't really a problem with the Chargers. It's the defense. At least Shawne Merriman will be back, but San Diego, ranked 25th in total defense last season, must upgrade on the D-line at linebacker and in coverage, Pete Prisco says.
