Steve Johnson checks in with two catches
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

San Francisco wide receiver Steve Johnson picked up two catches Sunday against the Cowboys.

Johnson wasn't a big part of the team's game plan, but made the most of his opportunities. He gained 33 yards on his two receptions, including a 21-yard catch. Johnson didn't make his first catch until late in the second quarter.

He'll take on the Bears Week 2.

49ers undecided about No. 3 receiver
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Quinton Patton, not Steve Johnson, served as the 49ers' third receiver Sunday against the Chargers, notes the Sacramento Bee. Coach Jim Harbaugh told the paper that he hasn't decided who will fill that role during the season.

Johnson told the paper he's still working to build chemistry with quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

49ers not ready to award Steve Johnson No. 3 receiver role
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

The 49ers aren't ready to declare Steve Johnson as the team's No. 3 receiver. In fact, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, the team won't "put numbers" on their receivers. Johnson is fight Brandon Lloyd, Quinton Patton, and rookie Bruce Ellington for snaps this preseason.

When asked if Johnson is the third wideout, offensive coordinator Greg Roman said: "It depends. It depends. I think we'll have some flexibility there."

Kaepernick already fond of Steve Johnson
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick already likes what he sees from new receiver Steve Johnson, reports ESPN.

"He's another guy that's easy to throw to because he creates so much separation," Kaepernick said. "Very quick, very deceptive, and I'm happy he's on our side of the ball."

Thursday, in the 49ers' first training camp practice, we could see why Kaepernick was so pleased that the 49ers' traded a mid-round pick next year to Buffalo for Johnson. He was all over the field and he was one of the bright lights of Day 1 of the 49ers' training camp.

The report says Johnson could be a huge key for the 49ers as Kaepernick tries to take their offense to the next level in 2014. Johnson is set to be the No. 3 receiver behind Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree.

Steve Johnson will have to 'clearly win the job'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

49ers receiver Steve Johnson, who turned 28 on Tuesday, is the frontrunner for the No. 3 job, "but he will have to clearly win the job due to his scheduled $3.925 million pay for this season," reports CSNBayArea.com. Johnson posted three straight 1,000-yard seasons before producing just 597 receiving yards in 12 games last year.
