Cardinals tight end Jake Ballard retired from the NFL, reports Pro Football Talk. Ballard played in eight games for Arizona last year after spending two seasons with the Giants and one with the Patriots.

Ballard made 38 catches for 604 yards and four touchdowns for the 2011 Giants team that won the Super Bowl. The 26-year-old said his body never felt the same after tearing an ACL in the Super Bowl victory over the Patriots.

Cardinals tight end Jake Ballard was unable to practice Sunday because of a thigh bruise, ESPN reports. The injury is not expected to keep him sidelined for too long, as he is expected to return on Monday, head coach Bruce Arians told reporters.

Cardinals tight end Jake Ballard came down with his second touchdown of the season during Sunday’s season finale against the 49ers in Week 17.

Ballard caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Carson Palmer on a 4th-and-goal play in the second quarter. It was his only catch and target of the game as he finished the season with seven catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns.
