Cooper entered the game with just one touchdown all season, and he hadn't topped 50 yards since Week 8 at Arizona. Matthews, a rookie, had seemingly overtaken him in the pecking order, but now Matthews has averaged just 33.0 receiving yards in his last four games.
The bigger upset for Cooper in Week 16 was outperforming Maclin, who had four catches for 62 yards. Maclin had only one fewer target than Cooper, though, and still finished with more yardage, so you have little reason to believe Cooper is now the preferred option. He and Matthews may be 2A and 2B, though, which makes both hard to trust Week 17 at the Giants.
Maclin was targeted six times and finished with only four catches for 62 yards. He has been held to four receptions or fewer in each of the past three games -- all resulting in a loss for Philadelphia. He has 82 catches for 1,269 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
Philadelphia will face the Giants at MetLife Stadium in Week 17.
Maclin's highlight came courtesy of a bad decision by his defender, who went for an interception despite having no help behind him. Maclin hauled in the catch and then followed a teammate blocking the one defender remaining between him and the goal line but was dragged down at the one-yard line on the 72-yard play.
The Eagles will look to rebound against the Redskins in Week 16.
The trio will hope for more Week 15 against the Cowboys.
Even with Mark Sanchez under center, the
But they'll both have their work cut out for them Week 14 against Seattle. Not only do the Seahawks rank third against the pass, giving up 199.4 yards per game, but they've allowed the fewest Fantasy points per game to wide receivers. And they've been especially stifling lately, allowing an average of 126.0 passing yards to the last three quarterbacks they've faced.
Just ask the 49ers' Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree how that went for them last week. The two combined for six catches for 28 yards.
Of course, Maclin and Matthews have been much more valuable than Boldin and Crabtree in Fantasy. Maclin will have the occasional stinker but has been more or less a stud from the beginning, and Matthews has five touchdown catches in his last five games.
For what it's worth, Jamey Eisenberg and Dave Richard rank both Maclin and Matthews among their top 30 wide receivers, with Matthews in their top 24, so if you play in a 12-team league with a flex spot, chances are you're starting both. But if you have uncommon depth at wide receiver, now might be the time to make use of it.
