Hughes (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday's divisional-round matchup with the Ravens. Hughes will be forced to miss a second game in a row after injuring his ankle in Week 18. In his absence, Derek Barnett and Myjai Sanders are candidates to see an increased workload on Houston's defensive line versus Baltimore.... See More ... See Less

Texans' Jerry Hughes: Out versus Cleveland
Hughes (ankle) is out for Saturday's game against the Browns. The veteran edge player missed all three practices this week. He played in all 17 games during the regular season, recording three sacks on 42 percent of the defensive snaps. The Texans are dealing with a number of injuries at the defensive end spot.... Texans' Jerry Hughes: Not practicing Wednesday
Hughes (ankle) did not participate at practice Wednesday. Hughes was forced out of Houston's regular-season finale early with an ankle injury, and now he has just one more chance to practice prior to the wild-card round. If he can't do so Thursday, he'll likely be unavailable Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jerry Hughes: Hurts ankle in Week 18 clash
Hughes is questionable to return to Saturday's contest against Indianapolis due to an ankle injury. Hughes was hurt in the third quarter and subsequently headed to the medical tent. The veteran's departure is a blow to a Texans defensive line that is already without Jonathan Greenard (ankle) for the win-and-in matchup. Myjai Sanders may see more work if Hughes is unable to return.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jerry Hughes: Stars in Week 1
Hughes had three tackles, two sacks, an interception and forced a fumble in Sunday's 20-20 overtime tie with the Colts in Week 1. The 34-year-old Hughes showed he still has some game left in him. His interception thwarted a drive that could have given Indianapolis a lead, then he took points off the board with sack-fumble that led to a Colts punt instead of a field goal.... See More ... Texans' Jerry Hughes: Signed by Houston
The Texans signed Hughes on Tuesday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. Hughes has missed only one game since 2011, but his production has dropped in recent years. Regardless, the veteran should still garner a solid role with the Texans in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Moves to NFI list
The Bills placed Hughes on the non-football injury list Wednesday due to a calf strain, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. Hughes will miss at least the early days of training camp while working his way back to full health. The veteran defensive end recorded 29 tackles (19 solo) and 4.5 sacks across 15 games last season, with his only absence coming for rest purposes in advance of the playoffs. Hughes hasn't missed a regular-season game due to injury since 2011.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Sitting out Sunday
Hughes (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Dolphins. Hughes is being rested for the season finale, as the Bills have locked up home-field advantage for the first round of playfofs. The veteran defensive end will finish the 2020 regular season with 29 tackles (19 solo), 4.5 sacks, three pass breakups and a pick-six. Mario Addison is also a healthy scratch. Trent Murphy and A.J. Epenesa are slated for increased roles Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Logs full practice
Hughes was listed as a full participant on Thursday's estimated practice report. Hughes worked in a limited fashion Wednesday, but that was likely just to allow more recovery time. The projected full practice should leave his status in little doubt for Sunday, and he'll be ready to take on the Chargers in the Week 12 showdown.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Limited for first official session
Hughes (back) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday. Hughes almost never misses time and the Bills tend to go easy on their veterans in Wednesday sessions, so there's little concern about his status for Sunday. Hughes isn't the same player he used to be -- he's been in the league since 2010 -- but he does have 4.0 sacks over his last four games, and if he can crank up the motor once again Sunday, it will go a long way toward slowing down the Justin Herbert Express.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Misses Wednesday's practice
Hughes (foot) didn't practice Wednesday. Hughes has been playing through this injury, so it's no surprise that the team is managing the veteran defensive end's practice reps. Considering Hughes hasn't missed a game since 2011, he's likely to suit up Sunday against the Seahawks despite the lack of practice participation.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Best game of 2020
Hughes had his biggest game of the season in Sunday's win against the Jets, with six tackles, 2.0 sacks, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and the first interception of his pro career. That's an Aaron Donald type IDP line and a glimpse at the things Hughes used to do in previous seasons. Unfortunately, those are far and few between these days, as it took a fired-up Bills defense and a lousy opponent to see Hughes get his first sacks of the season. Even as a starter, Hughes is in a strict rotation -- he's seen between 59 and 68 percent of the defensive snaps in every single game this season -- so it's hard to count on IDP production even though he still has the skills and the motor to get to the quarterback on occasion.... Bills' Jerry Hughes: Good to go Sunday
Hughes (calf) was a full participant in Friday's practice and will play Sunday versus the Dolphins, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. Hughes was limited during Thursday's practice, but it was likely precautionary, so there shouldn't be much concern about his ability to log a full workload in Sunday's divisional matchup. The veteran defensive end played 68 percent of the defensive snaps in Week 1 and recorded two solo tackles and a fumble recovery.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: All clear from injury
Hughes suited up in Wednesday's practice and is fully healthy after he underwent offseason groin surgery, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports. Hughes not only underwent groin surgery, but he also had wrist surgery this offseason to repair torn ligaments. Despite suiting up in all 16 games with 677 defensive snaps, the veteran saw his statistics decline in 2019, compiling just 23 tackles (14 solo) and 4.5 sacks. The 31-year-old is expected to start at one of the defensive end positions for the 2020 season; however, his playing time could take a bit of a hit after the team drafted A.J. Epenesa in the second round of the 2020 draft.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Cites torn ligaments in wrist
Hughes stated Tuesday that he played the 2019 season with torn ligaments in his wrist, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports. Perhaps that explains Hughes' low sack total of 4.5, a number that should have been a lot higher on such a strong defense with good linemen playing around him. But Hughes has dropped off precipitously from back-to-back 10-sack seasons in 2013 and 2014, not bettering 7.0 sacks in the five seasons since. The Bills might also have some explaining to do to the league as to why Hughes' wrist injury never showed up on an injury report. Coach Sean McDermott said Tuesday that it hasn't been determined yet whether Hughes needs surgery.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Active Week 11
Hughes (groin) is on the active roster Week 11 against Miami. Hughes was not a lock to suit up Sunday after missing Friday's practice, but it appears as if he'll give it a go, providing a boost to the Buffalo pass rush.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Sports non-contact jersey
Hughes (wrist) is wearing a non-contact jersey at Tuesday's practice, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports. Hughes continues to practice on a limited basis due to a wrist injury. The veteran defensive end stands to operate as one of Buffalo's sack leaders when healthy, though a timetable for his recovery remains undisclosed.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Makes preseason start
Hughes started and played 14 snaps in Friday's preseason game against the Panthers. Hughes appears over the ankle injury that kept him out of practice earlier in the month. He'll look to improve on the 37 tackles and seven sacks he registered in 2018.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Frustrating Week 13
Hughes tallied just one tackle on 37 snaps in Sunday's loss to Miami. He was also involved in a post-game incident with one of the officials in the tunnel, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. It was a frustrating day for Hughes and the Bills, as the team was called for penalties all day long and the game ended with Buffalo falling just short on a near-miss desperation play. Hughes apparently felt the officials had too big a role in the outcome, and he may end up answering for his actions to the league this week.... See More ... See Less -
Bills' Jerry Hughes: Tallies sack Sunday
Hughes recorded four tackles (two solo), including a sack, and a pass defensed in Sunday's win over the Jets. Hughes had gone three weeks without a sack after starting the season off strong. He's now up to 5.5 sacks on the year, putting him well on pace for his best season since 2014. He and the Bills will look to maintain momentum against the Jaguars in Week 11.... See More ... See Less
