LeSean McCoy should see bigger role if Darren Sproles is out
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

With Darren Sproles likely out for Week 8 against the Cardinals, how will the Eagles fill the hole in their offense this Sunday?

Chris Polk is the third running back on the depth chart, but he might not have the skills to fill in for Sproles. He has just four career receptions in the NFL, and wasn't much of a pass-catcher in college, with a career-high of 31 catches as a senior. And, of course, he is dealing with his own injury issues, with a hamstring that may still keep him sidelined Sunday.

Of course, the Eagles already have a pretty fantastic option to catch passes out of the backfield in LeSean McCoy. McCoy has taken a step back as a pass-catcher this season, with just 16 through six games, but he does have at least 50 in three of the last four seasons. He should do just fine.

This is a tough matchup for McCoy, as the Cardinals have allowed just 10.7 Fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Still, with McCoy likely to get a steady workload given the injuries, he has to be in your starting lineup for Week 7, even given his struggles.

LeSean McCoy back up to form
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

After showing signs of breaking out of his early-season slump Week 5 against Rams, rushing for 81 yards on 24 carries, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy finally looked like himself again Week 6 against the Giants. Of his 22 carries, six went for more than 10 yards, including a long of 28 in the third quarter. He finished with 149 yards on the ground, more than he had in his previous three games combined.

Even including this performance, the Giants rank in the middle of the pack against the run, so it's not like McCoy just took advantage of a favorable matchup. He finally did what we all thought he'd do at the beginning of the year, and judging by his comments after the game, he plans to do more of it.

"I never lost confidence in myself; you guys did and the people out there did," McCoy said.

The Eagles are on bye in Week 7, but plan on starting him every week thereafter.

LeSean McCoy goes over 150 yards from scrimmage
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, who entered Week 6 averaging 2.9 yards per carry, ripped off 149 yards on 22 carries (6.8 ypc) in Sunday night's blowout of the Giants. McCoy caught both his targets for 5 yards.

McCoy did not find the end zone, but he produced his first 100-yard game of the season and 11th in his last 17 primetime outings. In the process, McCoy passed Steve Van Buren to move into third on the franchise's all-time rushing list behind Wilbert Montgomery and Brian Westbrook.

McCoy is off Week 7 before visiting Arizona on Oct. 26.

Eagles deny RB controversy between LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly made the point to deny a running back controversy with his team, according to ESPN on Wednesday. LeSean McCoy took the backseat to Darren Sproles, who earned five of his seven carries in the fourth quarter of a Week 5 win at home over Philadelphia. Running backs coach Duce Staley told Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia that the fresher back will play.

"What you've got to understand is it's all about being fresh at running back," Staley said. "So when you study what we do, we're a tempo team, we're a tempo offense, and to go fast, you've got to have players out there who aren't breathing hard, that aren't tired, so you've got to have players out there that you can rotate and have with energy."

McCoy is averaging 2.9 yards per carry, while his running mate Sproles has 25 carries and is averaging 6.9 yards per attempt this season.

Celebrating small victories with LeSean McCoy
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

What a difference a year makes. Last season, LeSean McCoy was the league's best running back, a terrifying option out of the backfield that seemed unstoppable leading the Eagles' leauge-best running game.

Now, we're celebrating 3.4 yards per carry. McCoy's performance in Week 5, which saw him rush for 81 yards on 24 carries, is a lesson in the power of small victories. After rushing for just 39 yards on 29 carries in the previous two games, we needed to see some life from McCoy.

There is still plenty of reason to be concerned, as he had just 5 yards on four receptions and lost a fumble. Still, after watching him struggle so much in the previous two games, this gives some room for hope.

McCoy is far too talented to consider sitting out, even as he continues to post mediocre production. You just have to hope that he breaks out at some point.
