Matchup means nothing for Peyton Manning
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

It's not like any Fantasy owners were debating whether or not to start Peyton Manning in Week 7, but a few probably had at least some minor concerns about the way he'd perform against a 49ers defense that entered the day ranked second against the pass.

And he reminded them few why he's the last thing they should worry about.

You don't set the career record for passing touchdowns by shrinking against the tougher opponents. It's not like this 49ers defense is something historically good. This Broncos offense, and certainly Manning himself, is. He hasn't gone without a touchdown pass in a game since 2010, and he's had less than two only once in the last two seasons. Maybe the four touchdown passes he had Sunday would have been too much to ask of him, but given how consistently he's done it over his career, two should be the minimum expectation for him every week, regardless of his opponent. And you'd never sit an assured two touchdowns.

Of course, this advice is probably less useful in traditional Fantasy Football leagues (since again, no one was actually sitting Manning) than weekly contests like FanDuel and the like. Manning will always cost you a pretty penny, but you won't find a safer bet either. He may have unfavorable matchups against the third-ranked Chargers pass defense in Week 8 and the first-ranked Patriots pass defense in Week 9, but don't let that scare you away from him.

Broncos QB Peyton Manning throws four TDs. sets career record
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning shined Sunday night, completing 22 of his 26 pass attempts for 318 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in his team's 42-17 blowout win over the 49ers in Week 7.

Manning entered the game just two touchdowns behind record holder Brett Favre on the all-time passing-touchdown list and quickly fired two scores in the first quarter. He connected on a short touchdown with Demaryius Thomas in the second quarter to break Favre's record and added a second touchdown to Thomas on a 40-yard strike early in the second half. The Broncos decided to take the star quarterback out after he led the team to a 32-point lead in the third quarter.

Manning has been as good as ever en route to breaking the record, and each of his scores moving forward will extend his lead in career passing touchdowns. He's passed for 1,848 yards and 19 touchdowns in six games this season while throwing just three interceptions. Manning will square off with the division-rival Chargers on Thursday.

49ers CB Chris Cook (hamstring) to miss remainder of Week 7
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

49ers cornerback Chris Cook has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Broncos with a hamstring injury, the team announced. The injury leaves the 49ers with only three cornerbacks on a night where Denver quarterback Peyton Manning has thrown four touchdowns in a little more than one half.

Broncos QB Peyton Manning breaks TD record in first half Sunday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning became the NFL's all-time leader in touchdown passes Sunday, connecting with Demaryius Thomas on an eight-yard score in the first half of Sunday night's game against the 49ers.

Manning tied Brett Favre with his second first-quarter touchdown pass and then delivered a strike to Thomas for No. 509 late in the second quarter. Manning just seems to be getting better as he ages, and he's up to 18 touchdowns with only three interceptions through five-and-a-half games this season. He should have plenty more scores left in his arm before he decides to call it a career.

Broncos QB Peyton Manning ties record with 508th TD pass
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning tied the record for career passing touchdowns in the first quarter Sunday, connecting with Wes Welker for his 508th career touchdown pass in Denver's Sunday night battle against San Francisco.

Manning hooked up with Emmanuel Sanders on a three-yard score early in the first quarter before connecting with Welker on a 39-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown that was confirmed upon review. He's completed all seven of his pass attempts for 111 yards in the first quarter. Tied with Brett Favre on the all-time list after the second touchdown, Manning has three-plus quarters to break the record Sunday.
