Jerry Jones says big part Dez Bryant's growth is team's 'support system'
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said that a major part of Dez Bryant's growth has been due to the "support system" the team has afforded him, according to the Dallas Morning News.

“We got the opportunity to get Dez because of his foibles,” Jones said. “...we got him because we felt good about our support staff. We felt good about our willingness to basically contribute to Dez improving in areas that he had had challenges with in college.

Jones said that has spent more personal time with Bryant than with any other player during his 25 years as team owner and that Bryant is the only player he has co-signed for on personal checks.

“Now, he’ll be the first to tell you that a big part of why he has evolved is because he’s had great support, he’s had great encouragement," Jones said. "I think that he’s benefited. That’s rewarding, by the way”

Cowboys not worried about a Dez Bryant holdout
by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told the team's website he's not worried wideout Dez Bryant might hold out if the sides can't agree on a long-term contract. Dallas slapped the franchise tag on Bryant and will pay him $12.7 million this season.

"I'm not worried about that at all, and it's because of how much he loves the game, how much he knows that preparation, practice, all of that improves him," Jones said.

The owner added there's no timetable for getting a multiyear deal done.

"It's not imperative for him or us to get something done by the season or otherwise," Jones said.  "Let's be real clear: The franchise is there just to do exactly what it's doing, and it really rewards, financially, a player. And so while both of us would like to have a long-term agreement -- and I can speak to that, we both would -- it's not imperative on any type of timeframe of months or during the time the franchise is in to get something done."

Cowboys won't promise not to tag Dez Bryant
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

When the Cowboys signed defensive end Greg Hardy , the team included a clause in Hardy's contract saying he couldn't receive the franchise or transition tag after the season.

Wide receiver Dez Bryant will not receive the same type of clause, Dallas executive vice president Stephen Jones said.

"I don't have that kind of interest in doing that," Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. "While he may find one thing he likes about Hardy's contract, after that I don't think there's a lot for him to like about it.''

Most of Hardy's money is non-guaranteed.
