Wright was cut by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
With Chris Conte (chest) expected to return to the field this week, the Buccaneers decided to part ways with replacement safety, who they brought in two weeks ago. He'll now look to find his way onto another roster that's looking to bolster their secondary.
Wright agreed to a one-year deal with the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Adam Caplan of ESPN.com reports.
With Chris Conte (undisclosed) a question mark heading into Sunday's tilt with the Chargers, the Buccaneers decided to shore up their secondary by bringing on the veteran Wright. The safety spent the preseason with the Buccaneers, so he should be familiar with the defensive schemes and able to make an immediate impact.
The veteran safety lost out on a roster spot to rookie Ryan Smith after having totaled 76 tackles over two seasons in Tampa. Wright was overpaid relative to where he figured in on the roster, with a $1.75 million salary on the books for 2016 before his release. A Lovie Smith import from the former Bucs head coach's days in Chicago, Wright is likely to find interest from the slew of teams looking for some veteran safety help.
