McNabb gets restructured deal: Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to restructure the final two years of his contract. McNabb's new deal is worth $24.5 million over the next two seasons, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. A "significant" portion of McNabb's base salary for 2010 also is guaranteed, according to the source. McNabb asked for a new contract earlier this offseason after leading the Eagles on an improbable run to the NFC Championship Game, and even said he'd consider asking for a trade if the Eagles didn't improve their offense. The club bulked up its offensive line and added talented young receivers in the draft, likely appeasing their passer. "The Philadelphia Eagles organization and the entire city of Philadelphia are fortunate to have a quarterback the caliber of Donovan McNabb," Reid said in a statement. "He has proven himself to be a talented player on the field, a caring member of the Philadelphia community, and a winner."

Fantasy Analysis

Last year was one of McNabb's best because he found a way to stay healthy and connect with all of his receivers. Adding rookie WR Jeremy Maclin should only benefit him more and put him in position to get to 4,000 yards and maybe even 25 touchdowns. The addition of Jason Peters and Stacy Andrews anchors an offensive line that might be the best in the league. A contract extension would only satisfy him more and keep him focused on football. McNabb continues to be a safe No. 1 Fantasy QB worth a pick between Rounds 5 and 6 -- just make sure you properly back him up since he's not a guarantee to stay healthy for 16 games.

QB Donovan McNabb's reign will last at least another two seasons. Because of the uncertainty over the future of the salary cap and the league's expiring collective bargaining agreement, the team balked at extending McNabb's contract, which expires after the 2010 season. Instead, they restructured the two remaining years, giving him a $5 million-plus raise and guaranteeing much of the remainder of the contract. "It was most appropriate to make some adjustments on it so that he can be rewarded commensurate with how he plays," Eagles president Joe Banner said of the restructuring. "It was the fair thing to do. We do try to be fair with the guys." By giving him the raise and rejecting his request for an extension, the Eagles seem to be telling the 32-year-old quarterback that he needs to lead the team to a Super Bowl title in the next two years if he really wants to finish his career with the team that made him the second overall pick in the 1999 draft. The Eagles have made it to the NFC Championship Game five times in the last eight seasons, but advanced to the Super Bowl only once, losing by three points to the New England Patriots in 2005. "These two years are very important," said McNabb, "With the type of team that we have, I think it's important that we focus on what we have to do to achieve that common goal, and that's obviously to win a Super Bowl.
