Vikings want to keep Winfield: Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman was adamant Wednesday about the team's desire to retain CB Antoine Winfield, who skipped Minnesota's mandatory minicamp in hopes of putting pressure on the team to sign him to an extension. "It's an ongoing negotiation. It's all part of the business," Spielman said. "We're going to do everything that we can because Antoine is such an important part of our defense, an important part of our team. I know coach (Brad) Childress identifies the guys who are core guys and we'll try to keep them all together as long as we can. We've been able to do that and hopefully we'll have the same success with Antoine."

Winfield remains a No. 1 DB in IDP leagues as long as he returns to the Vikings for training camp. Keep an eye on what happens, but he's worth drafting with a mid-round pick as a starter.

CB Antoine Winfield did not take part in any OTA sessions and also missed the mandatory minicamp, although in the latter case coach Brad Childress said it was because Winfield was attending a funeral. Nonetheless, it's clear Winfield is not happy that contract talks broke down on a new deal in May and as he enters the last season of his current deal the veteran wants to get something done. It's too early to say whether Winfield would stay away from training camp but that possibility can't be dismissed. 62/5/2009
