LB Donnie Spragan, who spent the past three seasons with the Miami Dolphins, was signed by the Bills. The move comes on the heels of what's believed to be a season-ending knee injury to rookie Alvin Bowen. Bowen was hurt during a 7-on-7 drill when he pulled up on a running back and felt his knee pop. Coach Dick Jauron said team doctors believe it's an ACL injury. In Spragan, the Bills get a productive seven-year pro with good size (6-3, 242 pounds). He'll be excellent insurance while beefing up special teams coverage. The Bills met with Spragan during free agency. "We know a good deal about him,'' Jauron said. "We're probably a little bit fortunate and lucky that he's available. We talked about signing him earlier in the week. As soon as Alvin suffered his injury, we knew it was more than a good idea, it was almost a necessity.'' 08/03/2008
