Sanders Commings could start for Chiefs next season
by Marty Gitlin |

The potential loss of starting free safety Kendrick Lewis to free agency could thrust Sanders Commings into that role barring a trade or free agent acquisition, the Kansas City Star has speculated.

Commings, who played mostly cornerback at Georgia before being selected in the fifth round of the 2013 draft by the Chiefs, was beset by injuries in his rookie year. But the team felt strongly enough about him to place the short-term injury-reserve tag on him after he broke his collarbone in training camp.

He played in just two games before a shoulder injury ended his season, but the Chiefs reportedly like his speed and range enough to consider him a possible starter in 2014.

Chiefs place Sanders Commings on IR
by Chris Towers |

The Chiefs placed defensive back Sanders Commings on injured reserve Saturday, with a re-aggravation of a shoulder injury.  He had been on IR earlier in the season as a result of the injury, but had been cleared to play a few weeks ago.

Linebacker Josh Martin was signed from the practice squad to take Commings' place on the active roster.

Chiefs list five defenders on injury report
by Marty Gitlin |

Defensive players dominate the injury report released by the Chiefs on Friday. They are in various stages of recovery. Included is end Mike DeVito, who has been ruled out with a knee injury.

Listed as questionable on that side of the ball is end Tyson Jackson (abdomen). Fellow end Mike Catapano (ankle) is probable, as are defensive back Sanders Commings (shoulder) and linebacker Derrick Johnson (wrist).
