Vance McDonald caught three passes for 37 yards in Sunday's season finale against the Rams.
McDonald wasn't on the fantasy radar heading into the season, but he was given an opportunity in the second half of the season, accruing 262 yards and three touchdowns during a six-game stretch through weeks 12-17. He is clearly the most talented pass-catching tight end on the San Francisco 49ers ' current roster, but we will have to see if the team decides to add to the group in free agency or the draft this offseason before declaring McDonald a fantasy factor next year.
Vance McDonald led the San Francisco 49ers in targets (seven), catches (five), and yards (61) while securing his third touchdown of the season against Detroit on Sunday.
McDonald bounced back rather nicely after arguably the worst game of his career last week against the Bengals. He hasn't necessarily been a very consistent option, but he is proving to be Blaine Gabbert's go-to guy. McDonald could be a sneaky play - especially in daily formats - against a Rams defense that is surrendering the 22nd-most points to tight ends this season.
Vance McDonald (concussion) had an atrocious game against the Bengals on Sunday, only catching one pass (four targets) for 10 yards in the loss.
While the stat line left much to be desired, where McDonald truly failed was in an area that didn't show up in the stat sheet. He had two easy catches (that would have converted first downs) simply bounce off his hands and result in two easy picks for the defense. The big drops could have been why Blaine Gabbert turned to Blake Bell (four catches, 43 yards) the rest of the game. While nothing was officially announced, this is the sort of performance that causes a 3-11 team to explore other options at tight end.
Vance McDonald (concussion) is active for Sunday's game against the Bengals, John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game San Francisco reports.
McDonald confirmed his clean passage through the concussion protocol with full practices both Thursday and Friday. As the San Francisco 49ers ' No. 1 tight end, he should see plenty of action against a Cincinnati defense that has strangely endured the second-most TE targets this season, yet the 118 looks have equated to only 63.5 receiving yards per game and one touchdown.
Vance McDonald (concussion) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Bengals, John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game San Francisco reports.
Cleared from the NFL's concussion protocol Thursday, McDonald subsequently logged a pair of full practices. He's thus in line to serve as the San Francisco 49ers ' top tight end, hoping to pick up where he left off in Week 11 (4-65-1) and Week 12 (6-71-1). Owners shouldn't actually expect him to match those receiving lines, as he's likely the second or third option in a feeble passing game.
