by Larry Hartstein |

The Falcons DST could not stop the run in the loss at San Francisco, giving up 199 yards on 30 attempts or 6.6 yards per carry. Atlanta struggled especially after losing defensive tackle Corey Peters to a first-half Achilles injury.

The Falcons DST forced no turnovers but got sacks from Peters, linebacker Stephen Nicholas and defensive end Jonathan Massaquoi.

San Francisco scored on four consecutive drives to start the second half and finished with 379 total yards. The injury-depleted Falcons DST wraps up the season vs. Carolina.

With the news Falcons defensive end Kroy Biermann will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury, coach Mike Smith said Monday Jonathan Massaquoi and Malliciah Goodman will see an increase in playing time.

"Those guys are going to get an opportunity to step in and help us win some football games," Smith said. "I believe that they will. As I say many times, one man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity. We’ve got some guys that we expect are going to step up and make some plays for us."
