Andre Roberts steps up in victory
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Redskins wide receiver Andre Roberts stepped into a bigger role following DeSean Jackson's shoulder injury in Week 2 against the Jaguars, a 41-10 win.

Roberts hauled in four of the five passes thrown his way for 57 yards, good for second on the team. He had a 31-yard reception in the game, and added 59 yards on seven punt returns.

Roberts had just one reception in the team's opener, so it remains to be seen whether he can sustain this kind of performance. Washington's next game is set for Week 3 against the Eagles.

Redskins working on 'home-run' passing game
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Monday the team needs to do a better job of getting the football to wide receivers Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson with more space to make plays, according to The Washington Post. On Wednesday, quarterback Robert Griffin III agreed.

"When you have weapons like Pierre and DeSean and Andre Roberts, these guys can really go deep down the field. You want to get them opportunities and we had a couple in (Week 1). We just didn’t come down with them," Griffin said. "Yeah, we have got to find ways to open those guys up more down the field. Don’t think that’s any secret. You want to be able to be efficient and hit the underneath stuff, but you also have to get those home-run shots in every now and then. We’ll work on getting that."

Andre Roberts eager to be part of return game
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Redskins receiver Andre Roberts is competing to be the team's kickoff and punt returner. He told CSNWashington.com he's eager to make an impact not just as a receiver but on special teams.

“I feel like I’m one of those players who when he gets the ball in his hands he can make some big plays,” he said.

It's unlikely the Redskins will use Roberts as the primary option on both kick and punt returns. If he had to choose, he'd return kickoffs. In his career he's returned 16 kickoffs for an average of 22.4 yards.
