Michael Egnew start further muddling Dolphins tight end situation?
by Marty Gitlin |

Charles Clay will take a back seat to Michael Egnew at tight end for the Dolphins Thursday night, reports the Miami Herald. Clay caught just one pass despite being targeted six times in the third preseason game.

Clay is the most experienced of the backups to Dustin Keller, who is out for the season with a knee injury. He is expected to remain first on the depth chart when the opener rolls around, but Egnew might be able to push him with a strong performance.

Trio of tight ends must rise to the occasion for Dolphins
by Marty Gitlin |

The loss of tight end Dustin Keller for the season to a knee injury was a blow for the Dolphins, but they don't believe it was a death blow, reports NBC Sports. The team has snagged three tight ends - Charles Clay, Michael Egnew and Dion Sims - in the last three drafts. And now it's time for one of them to step up.

"The loss of Keller is disappointing because he was making so much progress even as a blocker, and then fitting into our offense," said offensive coordinator Mike Sherman. "The other three guys have really done a nice job. Obviously, they have a lot on their shoulders now with the loss of Dustin, so they need to be able to pick up the slack there. I think the tight ends have really made a lot of improvement."

Clay is listed first on the depth chart. He boasts the most experience, having caught 34 passes in the last two years combined for 445 yards and five touchdowns.
