Bengals' Giovani Bernard: Optimistic about status for next season
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Bernard (knee) will miss organized team activities this spring and potentially the start of training camp, but there's optimism that he'll be ready for the 2017 season opener, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports.

Bernard was placed on injured reserve after tearing his ACL in Cincinnati's Week 10 game against the Bills in November. Although that resulted in him having surgery and missing the final six games of this season, Bernard was back in the Bengals' weight room last week working on his recovery. Given the timetable of his rehabilitation, Bernard was never expected to be ready to participate in spring workouts, but it's good to hear that a return by the time the 2017 regular season rolls around isn't out of the question. Knowing that, it'll be important to track Bernard's progress over the coming months before shaping expectations of him for next season.

Bengals' Giovani Bernard: Placed on IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bernard (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

Bernard's season ends after he tore his ACL in Sunday's loss to the Bills. In 10 games, he racked up 337 yards on 91 attempts, finding the end zone twice. He also recorded 39 receptions for 336 yards and a touchdown. It's been a dismal season for the Bengals thus far, as they head into Week 12 without Bernard and their biggest offensive weapon, A.J. Green (hamstring). Jeremy Hill, who has split carries with Bernard all season, will now take on the role of true No. 1 back. Look for Rex Burkhead to assume the role of the No. 2 back as he remains the only other healthy option on the active roster.

Bengals' Giovani Bernard: Suffers torn ACL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bernard suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in Sunday's game against the Bills, Tom Pelissero of USA Today Sports reports.

Further details regarding Bernard's status were not immediately available, but he will be out for the remainder of the season. Jeremy Hill figures to see plenty of work the rest of the way for the Bengals, and Rex Burkhead is in line to take over as the No. 2 back.

Bengals' Giovani Bernard: Collects 36 yards in loss
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Bernard carried the ball seven times for 17 yards and pitched in three catches for 19 yards in Monday's loss to the Giants.

The Bengals' bye interrupted what was four consecutive games with at least 65 total yards and two total touchdowns for Bernard. Bernard is capable of racking up a bunch of yards and remains an important part of the Bengals' passing game with limited depth behind A.J. Green at receiver. Monday served as a reminder, however, that with Jeremy Hill -- 35 carries the last two games -- leading the attack, Bernard might get his, but it will seldom be at the expense of Hill's success.

Bengals' Giovani Bernard: Finds end zone in tie with Redskins
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bernard carried 11 times for 55 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's game against the Redskins. He added 14 yards while securing his only target in the 27-27 tie.

Bernard saw nine fewer carries than Jeremy Hill, but he averaged a healthy 4.7 yards per tote and found the end zone on the ground for the second straight game after failing to do so through the first six contests. He was curiously targeted just once, bringing his total in that regard to three over the last two games. That trend seems unlikely to continue, as Bernard has proven himself as a useful weapon catching passes out of the backfield over the course of his career. Perhaps the coaching staff will take the upcoming bye week to reevaluate the way Bernard is deployed, which could result in more passes thrown his way in Week 10 versus the Giants.
