Matchup holds Cecil Shorts in check
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

After struggling much of the season, Browns cornerback Joe Haden was back in shutdown form Week 7 at Jacksonville, preventing Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts from following up his 10-catch, 103-yard effort from the week before. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Haden shadowed Shorts much of the day and was physical with him at the line of scrimmage.

That didn't stop rookie quarterback Blake Bortles from throwing the ball Shorts' way, but the two connected on only three of nine targets for 12 yards.

The Jaguars offense being what it is, you can't expect Shorts to be consistent in Fantasy, but if you were excited about him just a week ago, you shouldn't be so quick to dump him based on this performance. It's clear Bortles wanted to get him the ball. The matchup just prevented him from doing so.

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts comes up short against Browns
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

No Jaguars receiver was targeted more than the nine times passes were thrown to Cecil Shorts on Sunday. But several other receivers were more productive.

Shorts managed just three receptions for 12 yards against Cleveland, his hometown team. He was coming off a 10-catch, 103-yard performance at Tennessee. He will try to bounce back against the visiting Dolphins next Sunday.

Cecil Shorts absent from injury report in Week 7
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts is not on the injury report this week after leading the team with 10 catches and 103 receiving yards Sunday.

Shorts has battled a hamstring injury for much of the season but came through his Week 6 performance with a clean bill of health. He should reprise his starting role in Week 7 against the Browns.

Making sense of the Jaguars receiving corps
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

The Jaguars receiving corps continued to evolve with Cecil Shorts back from a hamstring injury Week 6 at Tennessee, this time with Allen Hurns getting the short end of the stick. Hurns, who tied for the team lead with 11 targets Week 5 against Pittsburgh, had only four against the Titans, catching two passes for 18 yards.

Shorts was clearly the go-to guy, catching 10 passes (on 16 targets) for 103 yards, which shouldn't be too surprising considering his track record. It's just easy to forget because of all the time he's missed this season. The hamstring injury also sidelined him for Weeks 1 and 2.

But Allen Robinson has also carved out a niche for himself as a possession receiver. His nine targets were second to Shorts' 16, and he turned them into eight catches for 68 yards. It was his fourth straight game with at least five catches, but he's averaging just 10.4 yards per catch.

At this point, I'm pretty much done with Hurns in Fantasy. He's shown some big-play potential, but he's wildly inconsistent and could fade into the background if Shorts is back for good. Shorts, meanwhile, needs to be owned in the majority of Fantasy leagues. He's clearly the best of the three. Robinson has some low-end appeal in points-per-reception leagues but doesn't get the yardage for standard-league use.

Cecil Shorts racks up 10 catches, 103 yards vs. Titans
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts led his team with 10 catches, 16 targets and 103 yards in Jacksonville's 16-14 loss to Tennessee in Week 6.

Shorts had managed just seven catches for 60 yards in his two games this season as he's battled injuries in the early part of the year, but he came on strong after being inserted into the starting lineup Sunday. However, he made one big mistake, getting stripped inside the Titans' 10-yard line with less than five minutes remaining in the game on a play that would have given the Jaguars first-and-goal had Tennessee not recovered the fumble. Shorts and the Jaguars will face the Browns in Week 7.
