Report: D.J. Hayden still not healthy
by Larry Hartstein |

Raiders cornerback D.J. Hayden, who injured his ankle during OTAs, is still not healthy and might start training camp on the PUP list, reports 95.7 The Game in San Francisco. Hayden played in eight games as a rookie before a groin injury ended his season.

D.J. Hayden falling behind

Raiders cornerback D.J. Hayden, who injured his left ankle in the first session of organized team activities, never got back on the practice field, and coach Dennis Allen acknowledged Hayden is behind, reports ESPN.

"I don't think there's any way you can sugarcoat that," Allen said. "I mean, he's behind ... though it's nothing that he can't overcome. But he needs to be healthy and he needs to be out here and he needs to work. We'll see where he's at when we go through training camp."

Hayden was still in a walking boot at the start of minicamp three weeks after first hurting his ankle.

D.J. Hayden still in a walking boot

It's been three weeks since Raiders cornerback D.J. Hayden sprained his ankle and he's still in a walking boot according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Hayden will miss this week's minicamp and has missed the entire offseason program for the second straight year.

"It's definitely a setback, there's no question about it," Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday. "I mean, D.J.'s still a young player, he needs a lot of reps, but I don't think it's the end all, be all. I don't think it's something that he can't overcome, but he's got to stay into it mentally."

Allen believes Hayden will be fine for the start of training camp.

Ankle injury sidelines D.J. Hayden

Raiders cornerback D.J. Hayden missed practice Monday, and he could miss the start of training camp with his right ankle injury, reports the San Jose Mercury News.

"It's hard to tell," Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. "Initially I was hopeful of (a quick return). Hopefully we'll have him out here, because he needs the work."

Hayden missed most of last season's offseason workouts while he recovered from a surgery late in his final collegiate season and a follow-up surgery in late May. He also wasn't permitted to participate in contact drills in the early days of training camp. A groin injury limited Hayden to eight regular-season games.

Hayden, Oakland's 2013 first-round draft pick, appeared well on his way to competing for a starting spot before he hurt his ankle in a practice late last month.

Expectations raised for bigger, stronger D.J. Hayden
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer

Raiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver said Thursday on 97.5 FM in San Francisco that second-year cornerback D.J. Hayden is bigger and stronger, raising the expectations for him in 2014.

"D.J. saw just about everything, both in life and in football, happen to him in his rookie season," Tarver said according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "From his surgeries to his injuries to what he's overcome personally, physically, everything. He's a great young man, working hard right now. He's honing his technique, he looks explosive and he's put on weight and strength. And he's really focusing in on learning the little things in the defense so that he can play faster and be more aggressive on certain types of routes. He's definitely on the upswing."

Hayden had an interception, two passes defensed, a forced fumble and 25 total tackles in eight games last season. He missed the second half of the year with a groin injury.
