Peterson traded to Lions: Detroit acquired Pro Bowl linebacker Julian Peterson on Saturday from the Seattle Seahawks for defensive tackle Cory Redding and a fifth-round pick in next month's NFL draft. Both players must pass physicals to complete the trade. Peterson became expendable in Seattle when the Seahawks asked him to reduce his $6.5 million salary for 2009 and he refused. He'll likely play along the outside for the Lions.

Fantasy Analysis

After being Seattle's only player in the Pro Bowl, Peterson was dealt after a five-sack, 83-tackle season. He had 9.5 sacks and 10 sacks in his first two years with the Seahawks, the highest totals of his nine-year career. Peterson is a good stat producer when he's healthy, and playing in Jim Schwartz's defensive scheme should result in some nice totals. Continue to treat him as a No. 3 Fantasy LB worth a late-round pick.

OLB Julian Peterson was acquired by the Lions, who sent DT Cory Redding and a fifth-round draft pick to the Seahawks. It's a swap of expensive contracts: Redding signed a seven-year, $47.8 million deal two years ago, while Peterson is three years into a seven-year, $54 million deal of his own. Peterson, who is due to make more than $6.5 million and count $8.8 million against the salary cap next season, declined taking a pay cut in Seattle, according to ESPN.com. He's expected to provide a much-needed outside pass-rushing presence for the Lions. Peterson was held to five sacks last season, but recorded a combined 19.5 in the two previous years. 31/4/2009
