49ers' Garrett Celek: Could see increased offensive role in 2016
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

Celek is an early favorite to co-start with Vance McDonald at tight end this season, the Mercury News reports.

Celek was recently signed to a four-year extension, indicating that the 49ers plan to implement him in the offense. With Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense and heavy use of two-TE sets, Celek could be in line for an expanded role after putting up 186 yards and three touchdowns in 2015.

49ers' Garrett Celek: Signs four-year extension
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garrett Celek has signed a four-year extension with the San Francisco 49ers , CSN Bay Area reports.

Celek, who appeared in 11 games for the 49ers in 2015, while making eight starts, recorded 19 catches for 186 yards and three touchdowns in that span. In the aftermath of last season's trade of Vernon Davis, Celek should continue to see added opportunities in the San Francisco offense this coming season, though as a block-first type player, his fantasy upside is limited, with the likes of fellow TEs Vance McDonald, Blake Bell and Rory Anderson also on hand.

49ers' Garrett Celek: Placed on IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garrett Celek (ankle) has been placed on injured reserve, CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports.

With Celek nursing a high-ankle sprain and the San Francisco 49ers out of contention, there wasn't much incentive to see if he might make it back for Week 16 or 17. Even before the injury, Celek was surpassed by Vance McDonald, who subsequently suffered a concussion during Sunday's win over the Bears. If McDonald isn't ready for Sunday's game against Cleveland, rookie Blake Bell will likely get most of the targets at tight end. Celek doesn't offer much in the way of long-term upside and may have to compete for a roster spot next season.

49ers' Garrett Celek: Won't play against Bears
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garrett Celek (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Chicago.

With Celek missing at least one game, Vance McDonald could pick up some extra snaps and targets, following a 6-71-1 receiving line in Week 12. Both tight ends have been getting a lot of playing time, but McDonald had emerged as the superior deep-league fantasy option, even before Celek suffered the injury.

49ers' Garrett Celek: No practice Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garrett Celek (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Celek emerged from Sunday's loss to the Cardinals with a high ankle sprain, which is typically accompanied by a multi-week absence. With Wednesday's DNP, his case appears to be no different, and he could very well be ruled out for this Sunday's game at Chicago by the end of the week.
