by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Lenz was released by Houston, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Lenz made some early headlines in training camp, but it's become obvious to team officials who are the haves and who are the have-nots at wide receiver.

Texans' Josh Lenz: Making bid for roster spot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lenz, who caught three passes for a team-leading 52 yards in Houston's preseason opener, is "in the conversation" for one of the wideout roster spots, according to Houston head coach Bill O'Brien, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

O'Brien was pleased to see the former undrafted free agent make some plays in Sunday's preseason opener. "He's a tough guy. He's doing a lot of good things. He's definitely in the conversation, no question about it. He's a good guy, he's smart, like I said, tough, and made some plays in the game on Sunday." The Iowa State product is entering his fifth NFL season, but has yet to get beyond the practice squad of several teams. The Texans would need to carry six wideouts in order for Lenz to have a serious shot at making the team.

Texans' Josh Lenz: Receiving leader in preseason opener
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lenz had a team-leading 52 yards on three catches in Houston's preseason opening win over San Francisco on Sunday.

All three of his Lenz's catches came on the same drive and moved the chains. It was a nice game for the receiver, who's had a good training camp as a steady winner of one-on-one battles among the twos and threes. There's at least one depth spot for a wide receiver and his special-teams play as a gunner could earn him a roster slot.
