Mayes, an undrafted rookie out of Georgia, suffered a foot injury during Monday's practice and was subsequently escorted off the practice field by the Falcons' medical staff. He was a long shot to make the team, though, as he ranked just fourth on the team's depth chart and played sparingly in Atlanta's preseason opener.
Mayes exited Monday's practice early after he injured his foot, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
Mayes is an undrafted rookie fighting for a spot on the Falcons' roster at the bottom of the nose tackle depth chart. It's unclear what his injury is or how severe it might be, but head coach Dan Quinn said that he was being evaluated and more information would be available after that. Until his evaluation he is without a timetable to return. Look for Joey Mbu and Brandon Williams to get some extra reps with Mayes out.
